Are the symptoms of “IBS” ruining your life?

Are the symptoms of IBS ruining your life?

If you suffer from IBS, you are not alone. It is not always an easy topic to tackle, right. Yet it affects more than 30 to 45 million people in the U.S. Many people suffer in silence and don’t know where to turn for help.

IBS can be hell to live with. I know, I’ve been there!

For many years I suffered with many digestive issues and at times debilitating symptoms.

That is until I learned that it didn’t need to be this way, and in fact there is so much you can do to take back control of your health and your life.

So what is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

It is a disorder in which a person experiences chronic, recurrent bowel problems and abdominal pain. It is a term used to describe a group of symptoms that affect the digestive system.

I used to experience the following symptoms on a daily basis.

  • The constant gas and bloating. Oh the bloating and stomach cramps!
  • Being stopped, dead mid-step doubled over in horrible stomach pain and couldn’t move if my life depended on it
  • Constant fatigue due to malabsorption of nutrients
  • Sometimes going to the bathroom just to eliminate blood
  • Headaches and migraines
  • I would experience frequent bouts of nausea
  • I would avoid eating and drinking when I was out as to not trigger a panic run to the bathroom
  • Being terrified if stuck in traffic (been there, I barely made it!)
  • The stress of always needing to know where the nearest bathroom was
  • I ended up developing severe food intolerances that had me vomiting and taking one to two weeks to fully recover
  • Believe it or not, this is the short list!

Needless to say all of this affected the quality of my life and my freedom!

At one point, I was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis (which is a mild form of ulcerative colitis that affects the beginning of the colon) and prescribed medications. I am happy to say that it did not progress and there is no sign of it today!

The truth is, we don’t need to suffer like this. I have restored a happy balance in my digestive system and I am so much better now and symptom free!

IBS and other digestive disorders are a result of dysbiosis (an imbalance in gut flora) and inflammation, very likely food intolerances are involved (you have to discover what that is for you), stress (yeah who doesn’t have that, right?), but there are ways to help manage and cope with stress better, believe me.

The key is in re-establishing gut health, optimal liver function and rebuilding a healthy microbiome through whole foods nutrition, targeted supplements, lifestyle habits, and looking at the emotional connection to all of this.

It takes time. Consistency and patience are needed, but it is so worth it. I now have my life back!

I only wish I had realized what my symptoms were telling me way back so I could have avoided my sub-optimal digestive system from developing into severe food intolerances and many other body system imbalances and health conditions that I have struggled with over the years.

That’s right, the longer we wait to address the imbalance in our digestive system the more likely other health conditions will develop over time.

As Hippocrates said – “All disease begins in the gut” and today science is showing more and more this statement to be true.

The good news is, it’s never too late to improve your health no matter where you are right now.
